Helping the Helpers
Paws and Claws Puerto Vallarta is dedicated to ensuring that dogs and cats in the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico lead a life free from the pain and suffering of abandonment and neglect. We will achieve this by financially supporting the numerous small local rescuers who have a big hearts but limited financial means. Visit our Rescuer Spotlight to learn more about some of our wonderful rescuers.
Paws and Claws Puerto Vallarta is a registered 501(c)(3) charity for US tax purposes (#30-1342697). Every dollar donated will be used to improve the lives of rescued cats and dogs in the Puerto Vallarta area. Together we can make a world of difference, one paw at a time.
Examples of Our Support To Date
Spay & Neuter Clinics
Regular support for Cuale Spay Neuter clinics with over 4500 surgeries funded at a cost of over $89,000
Animal Shelters
Regular monthly contributions of food and litter to numerous shelters amounting to over $37,000
Veterinarian Treatment
Funding of over $13,000 provided to Veterinaria Mascotas to cover the cost of vet treatment for rescued animals
What’s the problem?
The year round warm weather in Puerto Vallarta leads to a long breeding season resulting in rapidly increasing numbers of stray animals as illustrated by the Pet Pyramid. Action is needed to capture, sterilize, and release or adopt out these animals.

Our approach
We provide financial support to local individuals and small groups involved in animal sterilization clinics, animal rescue, animal shelters, animal adoptions, animal fostering, and community education.
All directors and officers of the charity are volunteers and all donated funds will be used to support such activities.
What Rescuers Say
“We could probably do at least 80 to 100 rescues a month if the (spay & neuter) spaces were available”
Miriam
“Without the help of the free spay and neuter clinics, I would have to pay a veterinarian several hundred pesos per animal, and I can’t afford to do that.”
